Jeana Stuart, Manager Phone: 521-4473 Ext. 260 Centro de la Familia de Utah implements the Creative Curriculum for traditional preschool classrooms, and infants and toddlers; and the Montessori Method for selected preschools classrooms. Creative CurriculumThe philosophy of the curriculum is based on the premise that children learn best by doing and exploring the world around them by using their senses. It focuses on routines and experiences for infants and toddlers and helping preschoolers become enthusiastic learners. The interest areas or learning centers in the classroom are designed to support children's development. These areas include blocks, dramatic play, manipulatives, sensory table, library, music, movement, science, and outdoors. MontessoriThe goal of the Montessori philosophy is for children to become independent learners and to develop self-discipline, love of the natural world, respect for self and others, and an internal sense of purpose and motivation. Children acquire these skills through a carefully prepared environment, hands-on learning materials, investigation and research, collaboration, and freedom to choose their own work. Centro currently has six preschool Montessori classrooms in its Migrant program, one in Providence, four in Box Elder, and one in Genola. Teacher QualificationsAll Head Start® classrooms have a qualified teacher with a degree in early childhood education, or a related field with experience in teaching preschool or infant/toddler children. Head Start® teachers must have a bachelor's degree in early childhood education (or related field) or have a minimum of an associate's degree in early childhood education (or related field), and be enrolled in an approved bachelor's program.
